First off, I owe a huge thanks to the Sindos Linux developer for providing me with the Gyachoo binary file. For those unfamiliar, Gyachoo is a member of the “Gyach” family, which brings Yahoo Messenger functionality to Linux. If you’re a fan of Yahoo Messenger, you’ll feel right at home with Gyachoo.
The software even supports webcams, just like the rest of the Gyach family. Curious about how it looks? Well, I’ve got it running on my machine, and it’s pretty close to the original Yahoo Messenger experience.
So, What’s the Problem?
You’d think the next logical step would be to just package it up and share it with everyone, right? Easy—just create the packages, hit install, and voilà! Everyone could be happily using Gyachoo with Zencafe, problem solved.
But no, it’s not that simple. Here’s the catch: Gyachoo requires a newer version of GLIBC than the one included in Zencafe 1.0. Sure, it’s technically possible to use Gyachoo with Zencafe 1.0, but let me be clear: it’s too risky.
Why GLIBC Matters
Let me explain a bit. GLIBC (GNU C Library) is one of the core libraries in Linux systems, used by almost every single package. It’s foundational. When you start messing around with GLIBC, especially by trying to upgrade it manually, you risk breaking a ton of other packages because so many depend on it. Think of it as a web of interdependent parts: pull on one thread, and the whole system could unravel.
So, what’s the solution? Update GLIBC to the latest version, right? That seems straightforward enough. But here’s the kicker—updating GLIBC isn’t just a one-off thing. You’d have to update all the packages in Zencafe to make sure everything plays nicely together. And, let me tell you, that’s a tough road to go down. The system would need a full overhaul, and for many users, that’s a path fraught with complications.
Upgrade Zencafe or Wait?
So, why not just upgrade Zencafe to a newer version that supports the latest GLIBC and packages like Gyachoo? Trust me, I wish it were that simple. But as I’ve said in previous posts, there are a ton of challenges involved in rolling out a full Zencafe upgrade. It’s not just about swapping in new versions of libraries or software. There are compatibility issues, potential bugs, and system stability to think about. Releasing a new Zencafe version isn’t just a matter of flipping a switch—it’s a delicate process that requires careful testing, debugging, and planning.
If only the Sindos developer would share the Gyachoo source code, we might be able to compile it with the older version of GLIBC used in Zencafe 1.0. This could solve the compatibility issue in one fell swoop. Of course, I completely respect the developer’s choice to keep the source private, but opening it up would allow more people (including other distro maintainers) to get involved. It could speed up development and resolve issues like this one more easily. So, if you’re reading this, Sindos developer—any chance we could get that source code?
Stuck in the Middle
And now here I am, stuck between two difficult choices. Do we keep things as they are and continue with the current Zencafe version, slowly working on updates and patches? Or do we take the plunge and go all-in on releasing a new version of Zencafe, potentially fixing problems like this one, but opening up a whole new can of worms in the process?
Honestly, it’s frustrating to be at this crossroads. There’s no easy answer, and the path forward is far from clear.
My Closing Thoughts
At the end of the day, this is just one of those challenges that come with working in the open-source world. Sometimes things don’t fall neatly into place, and you’re left trying to decide whether to maintain stability or push for innovation. It’s a balancing act, and right now, I’m feeling stuck. But hey, maybe with some community input or a stroke of luck, we’ll figure it out sooner rather than later.
For now, I’ll keep tinkering and hoping for a breakthrough. But man, this is tougher than I thought…

kok damn sih om… the show must go on wae lah… klo emang dah musti cepet direlease generasi zencafe selanjutnya what ever wes.. klo liat skrinsutnya seh ya.. damn we must have it.. 😀
ho oh om, we need this, siap upgrade besar2an deh wkwkwkwkwkwkwk
oprek punya oprek rupanya gyachoo ga bisa nyimpen settingan alias tiap dibuka settingan yg udah kita simpan kehapus. wew, what’s going on? udah g da sourcenya ga bisa nyimpen settingan pula. but it’s ok, mungkin yg default terinstall tetep gyachi atawa gyache, gyachoo ditaroh di repository aja kali yah 😉
tanya nich om setiap kali aku install yahoo messenger versi windows lewat wine kok gambarnya hilang separo, apa harus diinstall lewat cedega soalnya kelihatannya perlu direct x untuk dapat menggunakannya, Abiword.tgz dapat diunduh di site apa soalnya kalau pakai netpkg kelamaan aku mau coba yang pakai installpkg, terakhir nich om yahoo messenger versi linux nggak bisa diinstall di zencafe yach? soalnya ada versi freebsd sama redhat aja tuh
hmmm, i’m kinda intrigue of what hudanet or sindos made. he made a fork from gyachi then he did not release the code? did cafe’s in indonesia really use this client?
@loell, i don’t know exacly what sindos want with released the gyachoo but without the code. when he give me the binary, he don’t tell me reason behind this. so let it’s be, i think it’s his rights to do that. the developer (sindos) it self lock gyachoo configuration, so we cannot change gyahoo settings, and i think this is not good. some cafe’s that doesn’t care about settings or code use this gyach fork i think, but i don’t know how much.

may you, bro? it’s your privacy to keep the source for yours only, but will be better if Gyachoo source opened

hi, this seem rather late, but gyachi is open source where that gyachoo is based,
the gyachoo modder is bound to release his source code according to the license, it seem he is ignorant of how gpl code works.
yups, ethically what he do is wrong. it’s better if he opened the source. more than that it’s easily to maintain, because people can help him to develop it.
i hope he change his mind and open the source for us…..
gpl rulez 😀
Iya nih ane juga pake nih program, keren abisss….jalan di pclinuxos 2007 + LTSP stabill
walo dah lama.. ikutan ah 😛
streamtuner
ada download management seperti kget
beryl
timer auto shoot down kayak di dream linux
desktop themes yg cool kayak di linux mint xfce version
kira2 itulah yg aku tunggu dari zencafe versi terbaru, semoga cepat dirilis.
gyachoo… hmmm.. kemaren nyobain… ga isa join room (ga keluar chaptcha), ga jadi dah make di warnetq.
